St Mary’s Infants – Sustainability Statement

St Mary’s Infants is committed to building a culture where children learn to care for the world around them. We are developing a Sustainability Team made up of our Eco Warriors, Eco Lead, Head, Site Manager, and governors to guide this work and support clear, long-term progress.

We have begun this journey through the Cut Your Carbon initiative, helping children understand that simple everyday actions can protect the environment. Parents play an important role in reinforcing our
messages at home, creating a shared approach that supports children to make thoughtful choices.

Children will take part in hands-on activities such as caring for our outdoor spaces, planting, and exploring local wildlife, helping them build a practical understanding of how to look after the natural world. We also encourage small daily habits – like saving energy and using resources carefully – so sustainability becomes part of everyday school life.

An action plan is being developed and will be in place by the end of the year. It will follow the four key areas set out by the government: decarbonisation, adaptation and resilience, biodiversity, and climate education. These areas will guide our next steps and help us work together towards a greener future.
